“Are not” what? Deciding anything. Taking action. Governing.
We are not fighting climate change. We are not protecting abortion rights. We are not expanding Social Security. We are not protecting civil liberties for LGBTQ+ people. We are not fixing education costs or addressing the student loan debt crisis. We are not growing our national housing stock. We are not making healthcare affordable.
We are not containing daily guns shootings, especially those killing school children.
The American people are held captive, at the mercy of an Americanized aristocracy in the form of the United States Senate.
This website is an attempt to start a conversation about changing our very system of government, to make it work for the People. For too long, desperately needed legislation fails to advance because the Senate blocks it.
With the power imbalance among the two houses of Congress, the de facto legislature of this country is the Senate. It is time to update our lawmaking body.
